Barry Smith is a historian, researcher and storyteller whose lifelong interest in history shapes his fiction. Born in England and educated in Manchester, he studied History at Cambridge University before making Australia his home.
Now based in Melbourne, Barry writes historical fiction and fast-paced espionage thrillers grounded in research, travel and a fascination with the people and events that have shaped the world. His travels have taken him across Siberia, Moorish Spain, Gallipoli, the United States and Australia.
Before writing full-time, Barry worked in human resources and organisational leadership. His books invite readers to uncover hidden stories and the enduring connections between history and humanity.

Barry Smith was born in England, studied history in Manchester and at Cambridge University, and has made Australia his home for more than fifty years. Much of his career was in human-resources management and management consulting. After retirement, he completed doctoral research on how to live and work in later life, and pursued the research journeys that now inform his fiction: Siberia, Moorish Spain, Gallipoli, the United States by train and extensive travel across Australia.
He writes historical, romantic and espionage novels, including the Kimberley Trilogy and the Kat and Ken Down Under adventures, drawing on history, travel and a lifelong curiosity about people and place.
